HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CROSSFIT?

Two of my friends told me to try it out because they thought I would love it. I resisted for a long time but then I found a Groupon. I haven’t looked back since.

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU STARTED CROSSFIT?

I’d say to mix up my routine a bit, meet new people and not have to be carried out in a stretcher. I remember walking in on my first day and seeing one girl scale a rope like it was her job.  I was so intimidated but I thought to myself, “I want to be able to do that.”

HOW HAS CROSSFIT DIFFERED FROM YOUR FORMER TRAINING?

Crossfit has definitely added some variability to my workouts. I used to go into Gold’s Gym with my headphones in, run on the treadmill for a little, pretend to use some of the machines and do what I called an ab workout. There was no weight training and definitely no squatting below parallel. I was also an athlete in high school so crossfit has brought some of the competitiveness that I’ve missed back into my workouts.

WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH CROSSFIT?

I can do a lot of things that I never thought I’d be able to do. If you told me to do a pull up 4 years ago, I’d probably laugh in your face. My cardio is better, I’ve gotten a lot stronger and I’m definitely leaner than I used to be. All in all, I feel a lot better physically and mentally.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE AT CROSSFIT HOBOKEN?

Crossfit Hoboken has turned into one of my happy places. I’ll come home from working out and my roommate thinks that I’m drunk because I’m in such a good mood and high on endorphins. The coaches are great, the work outs are debilitating but I really enjoy them and the people are the best. I didn’t really know a lot of people when I moved to Hoboken but now I have some really great friends here.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT YEAR IN YOUR OWN FITNESS?

I want to work on my gymnastics movements. Kipping everything, hand stand walks and I want to get a ring muscle up. I also want to work on my Olympic lifts. I just always want to improve everything.

 

NUTRITION QUESTON

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF FOOD LOOK LIKE YOUR YOU?

I did paleo for a bit but then I realized it was awful. I’ve been counting my macros on and off for a few months now and I like that a lot better. I find I have a lot more energy when I eat carbs. I try to stick to it during the week but I tend to splurge on the weekends. I just really like pizza and wine.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CROSSFIT?

I First heard about CrossFit through social media. Someone I follow on Instagram used to post videos of her workouts and as soon as I saw it, I thought to myself I’ve got to try this!!!  

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU STARTED CROSSFIT?

At first my goals were to get fit and learn all the drills, but now, I’m starting to think I might want to compete in a near future.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT DIFFERED FROM YOUR FORMER TRAINING?

CrossFit has nothing to do with my former training. It’s much more intense and challenging…there’s no way to leave a WOD without that “beat-up” feeling.

WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH CROSSFIT?

Results that I’ve never reach before. In just 6 months of CrossFit and 2 of dieting I really changed my body structure. Lost a lot of body fat and gained more lean muscle.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE AT CROSSFIT HOBOKEN?

I felt welcomed since the first day, everyone was very cheerful and pleasant. All coaches and staff are the best, very uplifting and caring. It makes us feel excited for waking up at 5am to hit the morning classes and making sure you get a spot in your favorite classes. I think CFH really carry that community feeling that all boxes around the world preach. Very happy to be part of CFH!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT YEAR IN YOUR OWN FITNESS?

I want to keep progressing in all movements that apply to CrossFit. Master all the Olympic lifts and learn all the gymnastics skills. Especially overhead squats, snatch, ring muscle ups and handstand walk.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF FOOD LOOK LIKE YOUR YOU?

I usually have lots of vegetables and meat every three hours – chicken, turkey or beef, all lean meat.
