Registration Closing Date
Thursday, March 31, 2011 @ 11:59 PM
(Day of event registration available from 11:00am to 11:45am for $50)
Rules
- A runner’s time will be based on how many times he/she can bench press the weight for their gender and age category.
- There are four lifting divisions.
- Runners not competing for prize money, may scale their weight.
Men 39 and Under – Contestants will bench press 135 lbs
Men 40 and Over – Contestants will bench press 115 lbs
Women 39 and Under – Contestants will bench press 65 lbs
Women 40 and Over – Contestants will bench press 45 lbs
Time Deduction
30 seconds per rep will be deducted from the competitor’s final 5k time for the Pump and Run Division. The maximum deduction is 15 minutes (or 30 total reps)
Lifting Technique
Lift starts with the bar in the extended position. Feet must remain in contact with the floor throughout the lift (no hooking bench support with feet/legs). Bar must touch the chest and be fully extended on each press – stopping terminates the lift. No bouncing bar off chest. Shoulder and rear must stay in contact with the bench during lifts. If necessary, plates may be placed under lifters’ feet. No baggy clothing, belts, wraps or lifting suits. Decisions of our judges are final.
Lifting Time
Participants will begin by completing their max rep bench press. Registration and Bench Press will begin at Noon. Race will commence after all racers have completed their lift (approximately 1:00pm)

Question:
Are the folks who signed up for the original August date but did not refund the fee still registered? Or do we have do start over?
So there is no time limit within which you must complete your max reps? i.e. If you can bang out 30 reps in 2 minutes or 7 minutes, you get as long as you want, and then everyone starts the race at the same time?
Reps must be done consecutively…once it leaves the rack you complete the reps until failure, no reracking
Just a friendly question Bennett…why cap the reps at 30? Shouldn’t guys/gals who can hit 40, 50, 60 plus reps enjoy the advantage of their strength? Seems like the 30 rep cap just turns it into a fastest 5K wins.
The aim is not to reward the runner or lifter, but reward the best combination of strength and speed.
This is an interesting concept. Has anything like this every been done before? Are winners based on 5 or 10 year age groups for men and women?
I’d be curious to see what results were for anything in the past like this. Thanks.
The biggest event of this concept is run each year at the Arnold Classic.

This is a first of a kind event (to my knowledge) in the NYC area.
We are working with our sponsors to determine prize money and goods. Expect something from Steve’s Club (Paleo Sampler Packs) and SFH (Fish Oil), plus prize money for top 2 in each age and gender category.
I will announce the prizes prior to the competiton on the blog.
BUMP!
Just about a week away, is there a definite course for the run decided yet?
Is this rain or shine? Weather not looking too good. Hope that changes!
Rain or Shine!!! We are on for tomorrow at noon
Will the results and pictures be posted on this site?
results are here:

I know lots of pictures were taken at this event but I haven’t been able to find them anywhere. Do you know if/where they are posted?
